Impressive record. But also impressive is the story of the tulip.
Is it possible that three tulip bulbs were traded in a brewery? That the variety "Viceroy" for 24 truckloads of grain, pigs, cows, barrels of beer and several tons of cheese changed owners? In Holland were in the years 1629-1636 prices for tulips of this magnitude commonplace.
Of course, this development also called speculators on the plan, the tulip bulbs and call options traded like stocks and thus also achieved artificially high prices. Interest from abroad boosted the tulip mania, which reached its peak in late 1636. Property, houses and land holdings were invested in the breeding.
When in February 1637 was a quarter below expectations at a tulip auction, the price of an onion, sparked this particular case at the "Tulips shareholders" a wave of selling, which flooded the market and prices dropped through the floor. The tulip trade came to a complete standstill, invested assets vanished into pollen.

all the way open and catching the light with every fibre of its rosy blossom and thus looking more like a giant buschwindröschen than like a tulip – and thankfully so, i might add. i'm an avowed tulip detester! that squeaky, rubbery sound they make, when the florist arranges them into a bouquet – ooh, it freaks me out! ; )) but don't mind me, you're image is beautiful! greetings, sabine.
