I agree Steffen. Most portraits proposed to the gallery are empty of expression and shallow in PS perfection. Personally I LOVE the feet in the picture, even the photographer's. I wonder about all the shoes being denim blue. Are those the feet of other orphans? Did they get a shipment of sandals from a donor? Even the boy is wearing blue sandals. I like Bernhard's observation though of looking down on the child - but in one hand isn't that how most people would view a child of such little means? The concept of the picture is a child's vulnerability and asking for compassion. That puts one emotionally in such a position. I came back to this picture a few times before deciding on a Pro vote. I went to my National Geographic books, to one of my favorite NG photographers, Gerd Ludwig's website and TIME magazine. I found tons of examples of less than "FC Gallery concept of perfection" images. I found several examples of the photographer breaking the 4th wall such as this picture does with the foot and the reflection in the eyes. I saw examples of how the feet in the frame create a frame around the child. I saw examples of "distractions". This is a fantastic journalistic shot. Then I cried and was greatful that someone cares enough in this selfish world to take a moment to tell this child's story. Then I voted PRO.
Give Mrs. Maria my love and respect. Is there anything that can be done to help the little boy with one leg and the little girl in the wheelchair? Do they have any special needs? Please tell me if this organization has a paypal account to send a donation.
only a few pictures in the FC have an expression like this one!
and it doesn`t matter, if there is a "white" spot - if you look into these eyes!
most pictures here are voted ... . not on expression!
they are often voted cause there is a nice object, nice nature, nice woman - and not if there is an outstanding photographic work behind...

Potentially a great pic but on closer inspection too many distractions, eg. white dot on left etc.Jamie Hollett 19/11/2006 22:06 Commento di voto
At long last a real professional image & not a SP in sight, & it gives me great pleasure to vote PRO for this shot. Wonderful capture.Massimo Carolla 19/11/2006 22:06 Commento di voto

Many here have from time to time ignored the percieved faults on pics for their journalistic value. The story is part of the Pic. Pro.Cees Kuijs 19/11/2006 22:06 Commento di voto
