Hi my dear friend Luis,
all these islands in the Aegean Sea have a history that extends back in Prehistoric times and , at various times, have developped high level civilizations especially under Byzantine, Venetian and Genowese occupation. After the fall of Constantinople in the Ottomans (1453), the Greek state remained under this occupation till 1821 when a revolution led to liberation and formation of the New Greek state from 1828 till today. As you can understand during the period from 1453 to 1821 life in the majority of these islands fell to a very low ebb. The first significant societies from the locals started appearing around the beginning of 17th century so, I can say, that most of the villages and towns you see in my photos have a life of 300 to 400 years old. This is why you see a mixture of Byzantine, medieval but mainly Ottoman architectural traces in them.
Thank you very much for your visits and interest on my work and for your warm comments and I shall always provide you with pleasure any information you want on it. I shall be delighted to exchange opinions on our photos.
friendly regards
alexander
