from time to time I just get these feelings, whenever I sit by the sea....


And then this one day in 1994 comes to my mind, a buddy and me were flying from Frankfurt to L.A. and there was this skinny guy in cowboy boots and trapper's jacket, hardly noticed by anyone else, wearing nickle glasses and an old guitar bag on his shoulders. Jokingly I said to my buddy: "Look! There's John Denver." My buddy said, "yeah sure, stupid!" and I hardly noticed the guy turning at me and smiling friendly. Afterwards when we had boarded the plane, my buddy made me bet on it. So we asked the friendly flight attendant if she would have a look at the passenger list, she came back and said that there would be no John Denver listed on that flight. My friend started laughing at me but I could manage to remember and make the stewardess have a look again for a Mr. Deutschendorf. Off she went and quickly returned to tell us that a guy with that name would be on the plane sitting in first class. So the shy guy giving me a very nice smile and hello really was John Denver. When I heard of his sudden death it really made me sad and still does. He was a piece of my youth and I always did and always will like his music as well as his engagement for nature a whole damn lot. ...
