Love No.2
Just a blink-of-an-eye street capture, but I like it because it speaks to one of my favorite
kinds of love – that special gentle unquestioning kind that exists between a child and an animal.
Burkittsville is a tiny historic village, nestled between two Civil War battlefields in Central Maryland. It’s population: 151 in the 2010 census. Of course, movie trivia collectors will know it as the setting for the film “The Blair Witch Project.” It was thus thrust into a bit of a tourist magnet in 1999 when the film attained such notoriety.
I’m happy to say I discovered Burkittsville well before that, while
out and about with the cameras on a day in early autumn, 1985.
As I roamed through the picturesque village, my camera-eye was attracted by the
little girl feeding this rather scruffy – but obviously sweetly appreciative – kitty.
The moment was captured with my Nikon FM, using a Nikkor 35-135mm lens on Agfachrome 200 slide film.
