Monument to the Heroic Defenders of Leningrad - 3

The author of the sculptures M. Anikushin powerfully depicts with raw emotion the story of the great feat of the people of Leningrad and the soldiers on the Leningrad front.

'Viktor was born in the spring of '44
And never saw his father anymore
A child of sacrifice, a child of war
Another son who never had a father after Leningrad
Went off to school and learned to serve the state
Followed the rules and drank his vodka straight
The only way to live was drown the hate
A Russian life was very sad
And such was life in Leningrad'
(Billy Joel, Lenigrad, 1989)

Yes, i do, but I prefer the Billy Joel's version. I was moved by the story behind the song about a Russian clown named Viktor Razinov, whom Billy Joel met while touring the Soviet Union in 1987. The song describes Viktor's life as one of many Soviet children who lost fathers during World War II, specifically during the siege of Leningrad.
U were lucky to see Leningrad in the 80s...
      Ciao Ornella
