you were asking for tips, I have one for you: don't buy a DSLR like the d50 at first, if you're new to photography! I know it's tempting, but it's expensive and is very hard at first to get some good shots. If you have some money tho, start with a prosumer camera like the Canon S3 IS or the Sony Cybershot DSC-H1. They have very good lenses and are affordable. Also, you don't have to change lenses when shooting nearby or far away. With the D50, you still have to buy extra lenses and change them for good result.
