Eastern Anatolia Region (Turkish: Doğu Anadolu Bölgesi) encompasses the eastern provinces of Turkey, and it is one of the 7 non-administrative sub-divisions used for census purposes.
The region and the name of "Eastern Anatolia Region" were first defined at the First Geography Congress, 1941.
It has the highest average altitude, largest area and lowest population density of all regions of Turkey.

Leben, Landschaft und Geschichte.
Südostanatolien (türkisch Güneydoğu Anadolu) ist mit einer Fläche von 75.000 km² das zweitkleinste der sieben geographischen Gebiete der Türkei. Die offizielle Bezeichnung ist "Südost-Anatolien-Gebiet" (tr. Güneydoğu Anadolu Bölgesi). Es stellt etwa 9,7 % des türkischen Staatsterritoriums dar. Diese Region existiert offiziell nach dem Geographie-Kongress 1941 in Ankara und ist geographisch in zwei Teilregionen bzw. Gebiete geteilt.
