Avatar - Kabuki

This picture is a part of the photo story "Avatars“ (descent of a deity into the earthly spheres and assumption of the human shape, in Sanskrit) - a long-time project were I took photos of mannequins during my trips to different countries. I opposed these dolls to the images of different archetypes registered during my travels (from Middle East mosaiques and bas-reliefs to Bucovina medieval Orthodox churches frescos). The idea was to create a timeless space of dreams, hidden desires and aspirations through a technique close to old palimpsests. Based on a melodic reconfiguration, the collages transform the mannequins into fabulous beings who ramble as Avatars through the world of historic, cultural, nature related and religious archetypes-sources of our human identity. It’s a thought challenging story with images describing a metaphysical feminity, imagined as a gathering of different cultural layers and enigmatic transfers from the physical to the archetypal universe and viceversa.
