Back in Medieval times

The main entrance of Sighisoara citadel.

The Place:
Sighisoara is one of the best preserved medieval towns in this part of Europe. Each year in July the town hosts a medieval festival.
Sighisoara looks a little creepy. Especially if the weather is as gloomy as it was when I was there.

In more recent times, the city is known as the birthplace of Vlad The Impaler ( or Vlad Dracula, if you're into vampires). His home house is one of the main tourist attractions (and famous restaurant).

This is the main entrance to the citadel, which is the fortified and best-preserved medieval part of town. 700 years ago, Saxon traders came and settled in the area. Their community exists to this day, in the streets of the town, you can hear a lot of German speech. Each and every artisans’ guild had to build a tower to aid the construction of the fortification walls of the town. The towers are ten and can be seen in various locations around town.
The Tower that guards this entrance is the biggest and is probably built (or restored) by the guild of watchmakers. From the balcony above you can see a stunning bird’s eye view of the town. Tower is a museum (which I highly recommend you to visit if you're there).

Photoadvice:
All groups with tourists come BEFORE noon. In 13.00 the city is almost empty and it gets pretty gloomy and creepy. That’s’ the perfect time for stunning shots - there will be no one getting in your way. Still, be careful of where you go - even though it's a tourist region, very few tourists sleep in Sighisoara.
