Currituck Lighthouse
This lighthouse was one of the last to be built on the Outer Banks. Currituck was first lit on December 1,1875 It is a carbon copy of the Bodie Island Lighthouse in design, both stand 158 Feet Tall. The brick was deliberately left bare to make it look different from Bodie Island. All lighthouses are meant to look different so that a ship out at sea could look at a lighthouse and know where they were. Currituck filled a gap that existed between Cape Henry and Bodie Island.
This lighthouse was worth the trip to see. Not only was it among the prettiest. The grounds surrounding the lighthouse were most impressive.
One of the most beautiful sites we have seen on the Outer Banks
Highly recommended as a must see on a trip to Corolla,North Carolina.
