fort national
The Fort National is a bastion situated on an island in Saint-Malo. The island is accessible at low tide. Fort subject to a classification in respect of historical monuments since may 19061.
Formerly called 'Fort Royal' and also 'Fort Imperial"(during the years of the first and the Second Empire), the current Fort National was built in 1689 by the engineer Siméon Garangeau according to the plans of Vauban and on the orders of King Louis XIV, as the ramparts of Saint-Malo were strengthened, it was the defense. Bastion of the privateers, he enrolled in all fortifications which ranged from fort La Latte to the tip of the Varde.
