Jodrell Bank Radio Telescope
A view of the famous Jodrell Bank Radio Telescope, in my home county of Cheshire. The telescope has a visitor centre, with lots of interesting things to see, such as a planetarium. There is a cafe, and in the grounds an arboretum, with many species of trees. In the grounds at various places there are markers which represent the relative distances between the planets, but on a smaller scale of course! The telescope was used to track the very first sattelite put into orbit by Russia, and it was used also in the tracking of the various moon missions by the American astronauts. It is an impressive sight, especially when it is in motion, following some distant star, or monitoring a pulsar. Well worth a visit.
