Maria Luisa colliery; Asturias - Northern Spain
Fitting up of the new head frame in Santa Barbara holiday week end , from 4 to 8th december 2008. The former one was an historical landmark from the 40s. It was a Dornen type with two pulleys at the same level and it was scrapped in july 2008, they needed no more than a week end.

Thomas,No, it is not abandoned. Although Soton and Maria Luisa are tied underground I think Soton pulls up its own coal nowadays. Until spring 2007 the coal of both pits were shipped all straight to the washery by a conveyor belt underground. Since the washery was decommissioned after a serious incident because the belt burned down, the company planned to install a skip in Maria Luisa to pull up the coal of both pits, that is why they are refurbishing the frame, as far I know.

Ruben
