The Roman Wall

Or rather, not the Roman Wall, but the line of the Roman Wall at Allolee Rigg in Northumberland. Much of this boundry wall used original stone from the Roman Wall. I always find that the remoter tracts of The Wall that have not succumbed to the Heritage Industry's manicured vision give a more intense feeling of history and reflect the uses made of it by man in the intervening centuries.
