In the photo a section of the city at about a point where the south borders of Old Town extend terminating to the busy city center. At the upper end of the street the Rotonda building can be seen ,a most important Roman monument built in 306 AD by the Roman tetrarch Galerius initially intended to be his grave. Byzantine emperor Constantine converted it to an Orthodox church of St George with famous mosaics and eventually after Ottoman occupation in 1430 the church became eventualy in 1590 a mosque with its minaret standing till now...Near by is also the famous Galerius Arch that together with Rotonda were part of his imperial palace complex. All these monuments are included in the UNESCO world heritage.

    Very nice old spot.
Anyway, due to fusion with elements of Ottoman culture, the atmosphere assumed by the city is very queer...and Greek identity is no more recognized.

...this could be a picture from another time...it gives the feeling of an very old city with reminders of turkish occupation...Ciao, my friend, have a nice day! Ansgar
