Das Finale bestritten Borussia Dortmund und der FC Liverpool im Hampden Park von Glasgow am 5. Mai 1966. Dortmund gewann das Spiel mit 2:1 nach Verlängerung und wurde somit erster deutscher Europapokalsieger. Torschützenkönig wurde Lothar Emmerich von Borussia Dortmund mit 14 Treffern, so viele wie kein anderer Spieler jemals in einer Saison des Europapokals der Pokalsieger erzielen konnte.

The final contest of the Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund at Hampden Park in Glasgow on 5 May 1966. Dortmund won the match 2-1 after extra time and thus became the first German European champions. Lothar Emmerich was top scorer with 14 goals for Borussia Dortmund, more than any other player ever in the same season of the European Cup Winners' Cup could.
