1Scape No.6 - 1 Train Manhattan Valley Viaduct
This impressive structure carries the three tracks of the New York City Subway's 1 Train (Broadway-Seventh Avenue Local) over a long stretch of elevated operation on the Upper West Side before the tracks once again go underground.
The reason the structure soars so high over Broadway (compared to more typical elevated structures along the Subway) has to do with the interesting topography of this part of Manhattan, on the western edge of Harlem.
You may read more about that, as well as view a photo taken from one of the
platforms of the 125th St Station, which sits on the viaduct, by going here:
The photo, taken on a crisp and sunny day in December 2017, makes its first appearance here (on a very hot and steamy afternoon along the U.S. east coast!). It was shot on PolyPan-50 black and white film, through a Nikkor AI-S 35mm f/1.4 lens, on my Nikon FE.
