A different Rome
Rome
Forum Traianum
The market in Forum Traianum
One of the most interesting historic sites in Rome that worhts a visit is the famous market of Traianus situated in his imposing forum right at the heart of the city and along the magnificent Via dei Fori Imperiali. Forum Traianum was one of the many fora constructed in ancient Rome, this one by the emperor Traianus in 113 AC financed by the spoils of war from the conquest of Dacia. The most interesting remnant of this forum is the market complex that impresses with it's architectural perfectness and also practicalities parallel or even superior to many contemporary modern ones. After a superb restauration from the Italian experts, the visitor wandering through it's maze has the impression that the shops will be ready to open in full action next morning.
It's wonderful to sit in a corner and think of this place crowded back in the ancient days....
In the photo, just a part of the inner court with shops around....
