Arriving the ger camp in Gurvan Noor

Gurvan Noor is a camp for tourists and other travelers. When we reached the camp it was closed for low season, but we got permission to stay one night. Just as we moved into our ger a Swedish and a Swiss group came for over night. The former closed camp became occupied by sudden visitors.

The Mongol ger is the yurt in most common use today, being home to three-quarters of Mongolia's people. The Mongolians use the word ger, meaning home rather than yurt, which is of Russian origin. There is evidence that yurts were used by the Scythian and Pazaryk peoples 2500 years ago.

    Wolfgang
