Azores one and only south coast lake

Azores one and only south coast lake

At 445 m this lake sits at a higher elevation than Furnas lake (295 m) or the lower lakes of Sete Cidades (260 m).
Climatologically nowhere else does one meter elevation count as much as in the Azores.
So how comes this is the only lake bordered by a laurisilva forest layer present elsewhere in the Azores, except for Santa Maria island, only below 250 m?
1. Answer starts here: this lake nests on the slopes ending at the only Azores coast with a perfect south exposure.
It sits 300 m above the highest plantations of the Vila Franca do Campo banana belt and 130 m below Fogo lake.
Note that Fogo lake is a mountain ridge crater open on its southern flank.
Even if Fogo lake would be a south coast lake it would still be bordered by a different vegetation, it's 100 m above the highest elevation for this layer of laurisilva forest.

Exceptions are some special synoptic situations which become the rule in summer.
