Oktober 1992. Ein NATO-Verband passiert den Bosporus unter der neuen Brücke, die in Istanbul Europa und Asien verbindet und läuft ins Schwarze Meer. Die Schiffe, erzählt man im Hafen, kommen aus der Adria, von der Operation SHARP GUARD, einem der ersten Auslandseinsätze an dem die Bundeswehr teilnimmt um das Wirtschafts- und Waffenembargo gegen die Bundesrepublik Jugoslawien durchzusetzen. Aber es ist schon zu spät, auf den Zerfall des Ostblocks folgt der Zerfall Jugoslawiens, das Gleichgewicht der Kräfte existiert nicht mehr, das Sterben hat schon begonnen.




October 1992. A contingent of NATO-ships passes the Bosporus underneath the new bridge linkíng Europe and Asia in Istanbul, and enters the Black Sea. In the harbour rumor has it that the ships come from the Adriatic Sea where they are said to have taken part in operation SHARP GUARD, one of the first missions with participation of the German Bundeswehr outside the own country. NATO and WEU try to enforce the embargo against the Federal Republic of Yougoslavia. But it is already too late. The collapse of the Eastern Block is followed by the breakup of Yougoslavia, the "Balance of Powers" does not exist any more, the dying has already begun.
