Ci En Pagoda @ Sun Moon Lake
Ci En means kindness, grace and mercy in Mandarin, and Ci En pagoda (慈恩塔) was built in 1969, finished in 1971, and in memory of Chiang Kai-shek’s mother. From parking lot to pagoda, it’s 570 meters and there is a number on the stone stairs for every hundred meters. Ci En Pagoda is located above 954 meters sea level, and the pagoda is 46 meters high. Combined these two height and we know the height of peak of the pagoda is 1000 meters. It’s the highest architecture in Sun Moon Lake. You can try to ring the bell on the top of pagoda. Be careful, it’s really loud.
