West Greece Epirus Zagorochoria
One of the many and very old bridges in this mountainous region of Greece, totally hand made from stone to stone, great specimens of fine architectural craft transmitted from father to son for ages....
This is the bridge of Kokoros, built towards the end of 18th century.

i love it's sturdy modesty! it's neither trying to stand out against the rock nor trying to outdo it in height and vertical splendor. instead it's like an accessory to the imposing rock looming overhead: perfectly suitable for people to cross, humble enough to not anger the mighty crag but be at one with it… admirable work indeed – both the bridge and the photo! ; ) greetings, sabine.

This stone bridge is particularly elegant, I doubt even modern materials could produce something more slender and durable. It is particularly high so this river must flood from time to time.

That is one very beautiful bridge and with such a slender looking arch and yet the people show that it is quite a large construction. A work of art buit to last....for a very long time.

those were indeed fine craftsmen using local supplies and making them blend in with nature ..... a very handsome old bridge - so tiny the people walking on it, and so massive the rock behind ... great into the sky view, impressive clouds !!!
