Exorcist Steps
This steep and narrow stairway in Washington's Georgetown was the
setting for a well-remembered seen in the 1973 movie "The Exorcist."
The stairway rises alongside the Car Barn, which at one time served several lines of the
city's extensive streetcar system, including a line crossing the Potomac from Arlington, Virginia.
Interestingly, the original grand plans for this "Union Station for streetcars" structure had it serving
lines running on the high bluff above M Street as well, thus accounting for having entrances on both
Prospect and M St, far below (and, of course, elevators inside for riders transferring between lines!).
