Früher war das Bw (MD) Gniezno eine Auslauf-Stelle für die Baureihe Ty43 (Kriegslok BR 42). Bis Ende 1989 wurde diese Baureihe auf den Nebenstrecken nördlich von Gniezno eingesetzt. Danach gab es weitere Dampfeinsätze in der kalten Saison mit Ty2 und Ol49. 1992 war es Schluss mit Dampf im ehemaligen grossen Betriebswerk...
Im Mai 1993 kam die Ty43-123 aus Wolsztyn mit einem Sonderzug nach Naklo nad Notecia. Auf der Rückfahrt wurde die Lok im Bw restauriert. Für eine kurze Zeit war die grosse Zeit dieser wuchtigen Maschinen in Gniezno nachgerufen...

The historical Town of Gniezno in Central Poland became famous among steam enthusiasts during the late 80's as it was the last place to use the Ty43-class (former German heavy 'Kriegslok' class 42) on the lines radiating North from this busy junction. By the end of 1989, all were retired and replaced by Ty2, which lasted until 1991.
In May 1993, Ty43-123 came with a special train from Wolsztyn to Naklo nad Notecia over Gniezno. On the way back, the engine was turned and serviced at the depot. For a short time, Gniezno steam heydays came back to memory...
