Golden Buddha at Wat Phou Salao
A giant sculpture of the Golden Buddha seen from the front at Wat Phou Salao Temple.
His sitting position is the Dhyana, meditation mudra position.
The Dhyana (or meditation mudra) is commonly used in the Mahayana tradition of Buddhism, a path of compassion for all living things. In this laying hand motion, the right hand is on top of the left, palms facing up, and thumbs touching lightly.
The thumbs touch to symbolize the union and enlightenment of the masculine and feminine in mind, body and spirit.
Typically, this mudra is performed with the hands on the lap.
