Golden Hour on the Saugatuck

On a perfect late October afternoon-into-sunset, I enjoyed getting up close and personal with
Metro North and Amtrak on the Saugatuck River Bridge, at Westport, Connecticut.

This Metro North New Haven Line M8 Multiple-Unit Electric Train departed Westport Station
a few moments ago and has just crossed the bridge on its way to New Haven.

The New Haven Line is one of three Metro North lines originating at New York's Grand Central Terminal.
The M8's are unique to the Metro North EMU fleet in that they are dual-current trains, operating on third rail
DC as far east as Pelham in Westchester County, where they raise their pantographs in unison to receive
high-voltage AC from the overhead catenary, all on the fly and without missing a beat. Shortly after Pelham,
at New Rochelle, they share the Northeast Corridor four-track mainline with Amtrak Northeast Regional, long-
distance, and premium high-speed Acela trains. (*)

The highway bridge seen at left carries Interstate Route 95 across the Saugatuck River.
