HELP!

That word at the top of the pylon at the Franconia-Springfield station of the Washington area’s MetroRail
system seemed serendipitously appropriate to what was going on, on this early evening of February 9, 2010.

A major blizzard had snarled the area, arriving February 4 and staying around through the 6th.
And, just a few days later, well before the area had the chance to completely dig its
way out, a second blizzard was to pay us a visit.

That second storm is on our doorstep and is just beginning to ramp up here on the platform of the
Virginia terminus of Metro’s Blue Line…and Metro is going to need all the help it can get
to keep trains operating on the above-ground portions.

The photographer, meanwhile is relieved to be in the final stages of his homeward commute.
The Metro train operator walking down the platform is probably feeling less content.

It’s going to be a long night…

i refuse to believe in blizzards until december 1st! ; ) but i do appreciate a good photo! ; )) and let me just add that after that magical date of transition (december 1st) i'm all FOR falling snow, which you captured beautifully here! my favorite detail, though, is the two-legged snow yeti pressing himself against the black "HELP" column and corresponding beautifully with his human counterpart in signal vest! ; )) greetings, sabine. p.s.: here's to warm and sunny and mellow altweibersommer! ; ))
