  Vertical pipe is full of water. The temperature decrease and freeze water widen and it only way out is the narrow slit between the vertical- and horizontal pipe.

  Many thanks! Physical function ist clear now. By the inner tension, Influenced from small temperature differences in- and outside, ice gets a spiralic form during freezing.
