Into the Wild Blue Yonder - No.3
Presented in honor of the 75th Anniversary of the United States Air Force,
which became a separate branch of the U.S. Military on September 18, 1947.
The Air Force Memorial, on high ground in Arlington County, Virginia, honors the service's history, including from its early beginnings as an aerial recon unit of the Army Signal Corps, and those who've served. From its high ground location, the Memorial overlooks Arlington National Cemetery and the Pentagon, and provides dramatic views across
the Potomac to the monuments and memorials of Washington, D.C.
The Memorial features three soaring curving stainless steel spires, ranging from 201 to 270 feet, evoking the
contrails of the Air Force Thunderbirds precision flying team, peeling off in their signature "bomb-burst" maneuver.
