Ladies in waiting
13. Sinsheim(Germany) Live Steam Fair, January 9th - 11th, 2009.
Two famous engine designs of the London, Midland & Scottish Railway rub shoulders while waiting on the ready-tracks for their next rounds with the little trains.
In front sits Jubilee-class 4-6-0 "Royal Scots Fusilier", splendid in purplish red coating and yellow brass, proudly showing her name on the splasher of the first driving wheel;
behind is famous Stanier "Black Five" 4-6-0 in her matching gleaming black coat.
Some engines were fitted with a double chimney, which you may notice on the Jubilee model as well.
The title for my photo I chose from the title of a painting by famous designer Otto Kuhler, who was a great railway enthusiast and not only had made some famous and successful designs for the streamline-shrouding of some big
US-steam engines (New York Central, Pennsylvania or the Milwaukee Road), but was a talented artist as well.
Hence a little hommage to Otto Kuhler!
Also of interest, a splendid B/W of the same scene by Andreas Bergs
