Lake Shuswap Rumble-Grumble...

...or diesels chasing diesels in Chase...

On an photo-joyful afternoon in late summer 1999, I was driving from Kamloops to Moraine Lake (*)
in the Canadian Rockies, on the second stage of a trip from Vancouver, British Columbia.

The town of Chase (B.C.), along Lake Shuswap, the source of the South Thompson River, struck me as a possibly inviting spot to break up the trip, get out and stretch my legs...and, who knows, perhaps take a picture or 30. (**)

It was.

As I was enjoying the ambiance of a small public park (***), I became aware of the enticing sound of
heavy diesels at work, echoing from across the broad lake, where the tracks of the Canadian Pacific Railway run.

As to the subtitle, actually, as I recall, the two long CPR freights MAY have been engaged in "chasing" one another... If so, it was an orderly chase, as I think one of the trains might have been on a passing siding, waiting for the other to rumble past. But this was almost 17 years ago, so please excuse any lapse in precise memory!

Whether or not they were both moving, those bright red CPR diesels made for a nice counterpoint to the colors of the lake, the trees, and the rock face for the Fujichrome Velvia-50 in my EOS-1 to capture in this long-telephoto view.

And what an idyllic spot for the owners of the houseboat, whether train lovers or just admirers of great Western Canada scenery!
