Love
Just a blink-of-an-eye street capture, but I like it because it speaks to one of my favorite kinds
of love – the special, gentle, unconditional kind that exists between a child and an animal.
Burkittsville is a tiny historic village, nestled between two Civil War battlefields in Central Maryland. Its population:
151 in the 2010 census. Of course, movie trivia collectors will know it as the setting for the film “The Blair Witch Project.”
The quiet town was thus thrust into being a bit of a tourist magnet in 1999 when the film attained such notoriety.
I’m happy to say I discovered Burkittsville well before that, while out and about with the cameras on a day in early autumn.
As I roamed through the picturesque village, my camera-eye was attracted by the little girl
feeding this rather scruffy looking – but obviously sweetly appreciative – kitty.
The moment was captured with my Nikon FM wearing a Nikkor 35-135 lens (on Agfachrome 200 slide film), but I somehow thought the colors, while pretty, took away a bit from the gentle (and timeless) simplicity of the moment, so I chose to present it first in this toned black and white version.
