Sitting like a spider in a web, one of the busiest railway spots in Germany,

Mannheim Friedrichsfeld junction,

where three double-track mainlines meet/diverge.

Busy "Main-Neckar-Bahn" from Frankfurt(M) in the north here splits into three main lines, to Heidelberg to the east, Karlsruhe(-Basel) to the south and Mannheim in the west.

The Karlsruhe line is mainly freight, since passengers either take the Heidelberg or Mannheim route for interchange purposes.

This small suburban station, though a stopping point only for rapid-transit trains(mostly EMUs) hums with traffic around the clock, also being a point, where freights have to stop for a crew change. So there is hardly a time of day when there is NO train to be seen in the station, more commonly you may be aware of two or three trains at a time there, thus often hiding the view across the tracks and keeping you from taking photographs...
