The house Bodelschwingh is a moated castle. It was in the 13th Century built by the family of Bodelschwingh and is still in the original family.The castle is next to the water tower Bodelschwingh Dellwig house and the surge Haus Rodenberg the largest and most important water castle in Dortmund. The whole castle rests on oak piles.Near the castle developed early a settlement that Burgfreiheit Bodelschwingh, preserved their independence until 1928.
