More than a Molasses Tank - A Tide Point Study
Westway Terminal Company has a group of huge storage tanks on the West Channel of Baltimore’s Inner Harbor.
The tanks store molasses, and if the wind is right, one may suddenly find himself craving a stack of pancakes.
But this is Baltimore, a city that loves its sports heroes, present and past. And the Under Armour Company, whose campus is in the former Procter and Gamble soap manufacturing complex, just across from these huge tanks at Tide Point, wanted to honor some of Baltimore’s admired sports figures.
And that is how these huge tanks took on a special cachet, with huge images of baseball icon
Cal Ripken, Junior, Olympic swimmer Mark Phelps (*), and Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis.
