New Tech, Old Tech - A New York Moment
New technology (or at least two of its users) casts long shadows on this late afternoon in June along the East River in Brooklyn.
While the two visitors are wrapped up in their trendy 21st century “new technology” smart phones, the mighty Manhattan Bridge stands impassively, reflecting her proud early 20th century “old technology” construction.
And, while the two smart phone users delight in the instant gratification connectivity of their handheld devices, the iconic industrial America span practices her own kind of patient and enduring “connectivity,” carrying traffic, pedestrians, bicyclists, and rushing subway trains between her contemporaneous end points, Manhattan’s Lower East Side and the former factory and warehouse (now more techie) district of Dumbo (Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass) in Brooklyn.
Somehow, she seems to know her “old tech” will be around to serve long after the girls’ smart phones have gone “so last year!”
Matter of fact, those wireless wonders may already be "so last year!" - I shot this in June of 2013...
And do I hear the Manhattan Bridge saying "Um-hmm!"
