On duty

A reception lady waiting for guests to arrive for a birthday party at a restaurant on a wine farm outside Cape Town, South Africa. Her pose, the heavy and dark gates and the formal tone of the monochrome photo belies the fact that right behind me lots of people were laughing and having fun on green lawns, with bright umbrellas and colourful drinks.

After shooting a few pics of the colourful scenes I turned around and noticed the interesting patterns caused by the sun shining through the beams of a pergola, and the lady patiently waiting for guests to arrive, whom she would direct to the jollification on the lawns.

I chose to process this pic in B&W, to suit the graphic and monochrome nature of the patterns and objects in the frame.
