Photogenic foreground at the Sera monastery
The Sera monastery is one of the sightseeing points for every tourist coming to Lhasa. Some busses bring the guest straight to the entrance door so that the people haven't have to walk too many footsteps. I purposely set this photo with the "nice" foreground.
But the temple is is one of three famous monasteries in the city along with the Drepung Monastery a branch of Tibetan Buddhism, founded by a monk called Tsong Khapa in 1419 during the Chinese Ming Dynasty (1368-1644).
The name Sera which means wild rose in the Tibetan language, because the hill behind it was covered with wild roses in bloom when it was built.
