Precariously Perched in a Disorienting Reality
Might this remind you of some of your 2020 nightmares?
Taken in February of 2019, long before one could imagine Covid - and all the rest, it is the facade of
the Helmut Jahn-designed 1900 Metro Plaza building in the Wiehle Avenue-Reston Metro station
complex along the new Silver Line that runs within the median of the Dulles Toll Road, its glass reflecting
other buildings in the complex in the hard sunlight of a winter afternoon.
While it wasn't my vision at the time of shooting, the sculpture of the running man amidst that
mash-up of architectural forms struck me tonight as being eerily symbolic of our present reality.
"Precariously Perched in a Disorienting Reality" was converted to black and white from an Ektachrome transparency.
