Rainy days in Firenze 4
Firenze
Piazza di Santa Crocce.
A very picturesque and most loved to me spots of Firenze is the pretty Piazza di Santa Crocce dominated by one of the most ancient, prettiest and most historic churches of the city, the church of Santa Crocce. It was called Temple of the Italian Glories as it is the burial place of some of the most illustrous Italians, such as Michelangelo, Gallileo, Machiavelli, Foscolo, Gentile and Rossini.Legend says that it was founded by St Francis himself. It's impressive marble facade was designed by Nicolo Matas. It's construction started in 1294 and completed in 1470 and the design reflects the austere Franciscan prototype.
But the churche's most notable features, it's treasors really, are it's sixteen chapels all of them decorated by masterpieces of Giotto and his pupils..
A unique place not simply to admire the frescoes but also, through them, to communicate with God..

all of your rainy day images are great, Alexander .... the wet pavement adds with its light- and building reflections ... here the blue van is a special eyecatcher, the church magnificent, and I remember it (and have a photo) from my honeymoon in 1964 .... oh no, so long ago :-)))greetings, Adele

It looks and sounds like a most beautiful Church, and I am amazed that it is so old.:))
