The softening is maybe attributed to the amount of light passing through. I applied -1 compensation when I realized later that it was somewhat gloomy. I should have done a positive instead. What do you think?
Interesting macro and subject you have here. However, i think there is slight camera or subject movement causing slight softening of the image. The bakground somehow draws attention away form the main subject. If I may suggest, how about experimenting using a flash for this photo? This will allow the flower to come out clear in the image and the background will become dark... :)
