Sickle of the Sun
or
total solar eclipse Nov. 14/2012 in the South Pacific Ocean
as the moon in ca. 25 minutes makes its way to cover the sun completely,
it was disappointing that one could not take photos of the event unless one had special equipment (it would burn out the lens). a group of eclipse-chasers were well equipped ....... I looked through my special dark glasses, through the viewfinder, through dark glasses trying to cover the lens - I could not see anything at all, just aimed, could not use my telephoto ..... so, here are the meager results (which to me still mean a lot).
at full (3 minutes lasting) coverage of the sun we could take our glasses off and take pictures of the corona - then it was glasses again and no pictures for another ca. 25 minutes before the moon left the sun again.

the orange sickle of the sun surrounded by a soft blur of blackish, purplish dark with some haze-like lightness in the right upper corner… very mysterious somehow and strangely pleasing to the eye. in fact, i seem to see the bulky head of a sperm whale rising from fathomless depths: the sickle of the sun being its eye, and the dark blue shape which is is its head at the same time also being the ocean it's rising from and the darkest night. the whiteness: the sky, the day, reason and everything that's known… an image primevally poetic, timeless and eternal! hugs, sabine.Angelika El. 05/01/2013 13:27

Solche Naturereignisse sind immer wieder fazinierend.Als Kinder haben wir uns Glasscherben mit Russ geschwärzt, um in die Sonne schauen zu können.
Ist heute mit den Sonnenbrillen doch einfacher. :-)
