Snake’s Head

Snake’s head is an endangered bulbous plant, that likes to grow in damp soils of grasslands or river meadows that are regularly flooded (flowers between march and may).

Nowadays it is rarely found in the wild (even extincted in Belgium, the last official observation dates back to 1899).
However I found this plant growing wild in Belgium, in Losheimergraben, exactly on the border with Germany, but it was about 10 meters on Belgian territory :-))

At the top you can see 2 mating lily beetles.

Dutch name : Kievitsbloem met Leliehaantjes
German name : Schachblume (auch Schachbrettblume oder Kiebitzei genannt) mit Lilienhähnchen
Latin name : Fritillaria meleagris + Lilioceris lilii
