Symbols
Gates are the guards against invasion from the outside world. Like the mountain passes that protected the peoples of Maramures from invading hordes, the gates of villages have prevented demons and evil from entering the homes of the villagers for centuries. Protective symbols such as the wolf tooth and the rooster are carved from pine wood and placed on the gates.
