The island Langkawi is part of Malaysia and is situated in the Andaman Sea.
A friend of mine told me that the white sea eagle as well as the Brahminy Kite (Haliastur indus), also known as the Red-backed Sea-eagle, are frequently seen on the mangrove forest bordering the Andaman sea.
I decided to rent a boat and took both my 600 mm and 300 mm lenses, hoping to make some good shots of these magnificent birds. Soon, I discovered that, in a small fisherman boat, the use of my 600 mm lens was unpractical and I had to shoot with the 300 mm.
When Brahminy kites dive down to catch fish, they are making unexpected movements.
It’s practically impossible to follow the unpredictable turns of these birds.
Determined to succeed in getting some satisfying images, it took me 4 days with an average duration of 5 hours per day of focused shooting. The concentration needed to make this type of images is extremely high.
