The Birds !

This might look as a scene out of the world famous Hitchcock movie ‘The Birds’, but in reality this is going on right now.

In the nature reserve ‘Molsbroek’ at Lokeren (Belgium), a large colony of about (estimated) 2000 Black-headed Gulls is breeding in the reedbeds and on tiny islands in the lake. This is a noisy species, constantly quarreling and fighting to defend the nesting place.

Dutch name : Kokmeeuw
German name : Lachmöwe
Latin name : Chroicocephalus ridibundus (previous Larus ridibundus)

in fact, we are living "THE BIRDS" every day in downtown hamburg these days!!! i was hit by a piece of sausage the other day, that dropped down from the sky – a gull had lost it on one of its air raids – and the x-mas markets haven't even opened yet… at least ours are not wearing their notorious brown face masks anymore – apparently, the german "vermummungs-verbot" goes not only for protesting humans but for gulls, too! ; )))))) greetings, sabine.

Es ist herrlich, die Stimmung am Wasser mit den vielen Vögeln zu sehen und zu erleben, das bild bringt diese Stimmung sehr gut zur Geltung. Ich mag das sehr.

Ich denke, da muß man in der Nähe der Küste leben, um so etwas zu sehen. Grandios generell, das Bild und die Fotoqualität.
