Delta of Axios river

The wetland complex of Axios river, just efore emptying in the open of Aegean Sea, is one of the most important and impressive ecosystems in Greece. It constitutes a vast system of river banks, marshes, dunes, lagoons and salt flats thus creating an ideal biotope for many spieces of wild animals and birds. Certain places, among the marshes, have been selected to provide formidable niches and lagoons for fishing and sea product exploitation
