The Fungi World (295) : Blusher

Late autumn. It’s getting gradually darker and colder in the forest, but there are still fungi growing there.
The party ain’t over yet !

***
My shot shows the last stage of an old Blusher, a fungus that got its name because its flesh reddens wherever it is damaged.

Poisonous if raw but edible if cooked. It’s one of the very few fungi where the toxin is destroyed by the cooking process.

But fungi newbies have to watch out, as the Blusher can easily be confused with the deadly poisonous Panther Cap ! (see picture below)

Dutch name : Parelamaniet
German name : Perlpilz
Latin name : Amanita rubescens

it's in the nature of things: some fungi newbies never survive to become veteran mushroom hunters. and old blushers – well, grew old without losing their innocence, i guess… ; ) beautiful, how this mushroom fits its autumnally colored surroundings and even provides you with the diagonal line much required and praised by photo hotshots! ; ) greetings, sabine.

The perfect camouflage by surrounding fall foliage.
Alone the red color would convince me already not to add this mushroom to take home, although as you write, after cooking is no longer toxic. A very good and extremely detailed photograph.

Den hab ich mir noch nie zu nehmen getraut. Die Ähnlichkeit mit dem Pantherpilz ist mir zu groß.
    Gruß Heinz
